Chapter 22
Blistering barnacles

It was so very quiet and the tension was awful. They had been waiting in silence and the clock slowly got closer to eleven. Spock kept looking at his watch and seemed to be counting every second. He was clenching has wand and did his best to ignore Kirk. They hadn't said a word the whole time, except for when Kirk had been chatting with Snowy to calm the cat from worrying about his owner. Kirk was suspecting there was more to the cat than met the eye for it didn't act much like a cat.
When the clock turned eleven Kirk looked at the doors for exactly a minute before turning to Spock.
"We should get help. It's eleven."
Kirk stood up and brushed some dust from his pants. He didn't wait for Spock to say anything before turning towards the door on the other side. He had only walked a few steps when he suddenly froze and turned around.
"In Scandinavia it's not." Spock had said to him without even moving a muscle. He was still staring at his watch.
Kirk didn't really know what to say. He was most of all shocked that Spock had spoken to him and second of all he was confused since Scandinavia didn't have anything to do with anything.
"But it's eleven here. Let's go!"
"I said; In Scandinavia it is not."
"What are you trying to pull?"
Spock turned his gaze away from the watch and stared at Kirk.
"We will wait another hour."
Kirk didn't dare to say anything and went back to his place and sat down. Snowy lay down in his lap and the cat stared intensely at the door while Kirk had his gaze at Spock.
Time passed and it was actually past midnight but with no sign of the others. Kirk didn't mind sitting there, but his companion didn't seem to agree with him even though he had convinced Kirk to stay behind. Kirk finally got sick of the silence
"Will they ever come back?" Kirk stretched his leg and upset Snowy.
"Who knows?"
Kirk didn't expect to get an answer on the rhetorical question and stared at Spock as if he was insane. The answer was such a surprise for Spock didn't even hesitate to answer. Kirk couldn't help but smile, even if he tried to hide it.
"Everything seems to be pretty calm though... Is there anything you regret in your life?"
"Maybe. Probably." Spock took a while to answer as he was still looking at his watch. He didn't seem to know if he should be honest or not.
"I have something I regret. I wouldn't bear to die with that regret."
"Then don't die."
Spock and Kirk both turned towards each other at the same time and their eyes met. Spock looked calm but Kirk could see in his dark eyes that he was uncertain and maybe even a little bit scared. Kirk had never seen the boy look anything else than calm and confident so in his head something happened that tore down all the barriers. Without much of hesitation Kirk put his wand in his robe, removed Snowy from his lap and leaned forward so that he could crawl across the room.
Spock didn't move. Kirk got closer and as he reached the other boy he stopped. He was leaning over the boy's legs and had his head just inches away from Spock's. They didn't move. They only stared into each other's eyes. Their brown eyes met and stared into each other. Spock opened his mouth to say something, but Kirk wouldn't let him. Not in this moment.
Kirk leaned forward and with his eyes half-closed he pressed his lips towards Spock's. For only a second their lips made contact. When Kirk retreated he had to force himself to raise his gaze to look at Spock. He sure got a surprise. He was waiting for a punch in the face, a knee in his crotch or in the least getting pushed away. But Spock just stared down his side and had his mouth open as if he wanted to say something. His cheeks were red and all the confidence seemed to have been blown away.
"Spock?" Kirk tried to encourage him to speak.
Spock slowly raised his gaze and looked at Kirk. It was so intense and Kirk had to stop himself from leaning forward again. Patience was key, and so he waited for the response.
"Why would you do that?" Spock said with a weak voice.
"Why? I thought it was obvious."
"Are you messing around in such a serious situation?"
"I'm not messing around! Who would kiss a guy for the sake of 'messing around'?"
Spock didn't answer but turned away his gaze.
"I just want you to know how important you are."
Spock didn't let Kirk say anything more than that. With a shaking hand he put his hand on Kirk's shoulder and once more he sought eye contact. Kirk couldn't keep away anymore and once more he leaned forward and kissed the boy in front of him. Seconds passed until Spock suddenly pushed Kirk away.
"We don't have time for this."
At the same moment as Kirk a little bit disappointed sat down in front of Spock the door slammed open and the ones they were waiting for rushed out of the green door. Both Kirk and Spock pushed aside the moment they had just had and stood up.
"You were supposed to get help!" Edward yelled with a furious tone while the others ran through the room and out of the door with Snowy following them.
Kirk could only look at Spock who had a little smile in the corner of his mouth. They all ran out of the room and up the corridor. Kirk couldn't help but notice that two were missing.

The ground was shaking, the world was falling apart miles under the school. Pippin sat with Merry's hand in his, clenching it a bit too hard. He had forgotten all about the world around.
"I'm not going to let you stay here." He tried to sound convincing.
He stroked Merry's hair. He was so warm. There must be something left to do! Pippin thought about all he had ever learned. He stood up, almost falling down as the ground quaked but found his balance again. He raised his wand and in just a couple of seconds the stones flew up in the air before falling down on the other side of the room.
Pippin tried shaking Merry gently to get some contact but Merry was still lifeless. With the last powers in his body Pippin grabbed Merry and began dragging him out. It was heavy, but Pippin couldn't let him stay there. He did his best but he was moving at a very slow pace since the ground kept shaking. He couldn't even bother to pick out his wand to shed some light in the long corridor. He just kept dragging Merry with him until he had run out of power.
He fell to his knees and carefully laid Merry at the floor. Pippin did his best to keep the tears from flowing when he laid his head on Merry's chest. The faint smell from Merry was the last thing he remembered.
Isn't the title just SO awesome? And it's totally related to the content. Totally...

I hate and love this chapter with all my heart. It's poorly written but I love the content. But then again I'm a fangirl so every time I can read anything slashy I love it.

Just two more chapter to go!
WOW!
